- The eighteenth amendment was passed in 2010 to give more power to the provinces by removing many central controls and promoting local decision-making.
- It removed the president’s power to dissolve the parliament and made Pakistan more of a parliamentary democracy.
- The amendment also renamed NWFP to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and strengthened the role of the constitution in protecting democratic rights.
